The Madison County Weatherization Program aids income-eligible homeowners and renters by installing energy saving measures. The weatherization of units conserves fuel, which reduces energy consumption and lowers utility bills. Weatherization seals a building so cold air cannot get in and warm air cannot escape during the winter.
Energy Saving measures are provided free of charge to owner-occupied households and include: stopping air infiltration and general heat waste; insulating attics and sidewalls to a specified ?R? factor; caulking and weather-stripping and addressing window problems. Furnaces are also inspected for health, safety, and mechanical measures. Tune-ups and repairs are made and, if necessary, a new furnace may be installed. Renter applicants receive similar weatherization measures, but a 50% landlord contribution is required for mechanical and may be required on the architectural work.
