Geographic Information System: The system was created to coordinate and setup the County's GIS. Currently we are setting up the GIS to automate the mapping done by the Supervisor of Assessments - Maps & Plats division. There are many different task involved with this project, some of which are listed here.
- Installing, setting up, and maintaining the computers to be used for the GIS system.
- Developing and establishing a network for all computers used in the GIS.
- Train individuals on the concepts and methods of creating, editing, and analyzing geographic data with a GIS.
- Developing the methods for converting the County's some 2200 parcel maps into a digital format (Arc/Info coverages) and adjusting each parcel to Digital Orhtophotography to provide State Planes Coordinates.
- Establishing a connection between the County's Mainframe and the GIS to share information. Developing and giving demonstrations of what a GIS can do for interested County offices and local municipalities.
- Writing software programs to provide user access to spatial data used with the GIS.
- Work with Southern Illinois University to manage a GIS internship program.
