POLICE MERIT BOARD

The Police Merit Board serves as a semi-judicial administrative review panel for the appointment of Sheriff's Deputies. The members of the Board are appointed by the Sheriff and approved by the County Board. The Merit Board functions to:

  • Maintain a merit system for deputies in the Sheriff's Department.
  • Screen applicants for the position of deputy.
  • Administer written examinations for promotion of law enforcement personnel within the Sheriff's Department.
  • Conduct hearings on charges of misconduct or personnel complaints brought before the Merit Board.
