Community Services Programs

Target Population: The Community Services programs assist Madison County households who meet the low income/poverty guidelines, and persons who are homeless.
Services Offered:

The Community Services programs help people in emergency situations as well as longer term assistance to assist low income households to become more independent and self-sufficient. The Community Service programs funded through Madison County Community Development are operated by several agencies throughout Madison County.

Short term financial assistance is available to help families through crisis situations. These services include help with rent, medicine, food and transportation. Emergency shelter is provided for homeless families and individuals. Detailed information by clicking the appropriate link.

Other services are available to assist families in becoming more self-reliant and less dependent on public assistance programs. These services include housing and budget counseling, scholarships for post-secondary education, consumer – homemaker workshops, youth education and achievement, and vocational training. Required Documentation: Most of the Community Service programs are income based. To receive these services you must have the following documentation:
  • Proof of income for all household members for the 90 day period prior to application.
  • Social Security card and photo ID of the applicant.
  • Verification of need for services.
Application Process: To inquire about the services contact the agency at the phone number or address provided on the attached links. Appointments can be set up after a brief interview to determine if the service is appropriate and eligibility can be met.
Funding: The Community Services programs are funded by federal grants through the Community Services Block Grant and Emergency Shelter Grant programs

For family units with more than 8 members, add $3,480 for each additional member to arrive at yearly amounts for 100%. At 125%, yearly amounts are increased by $4,350 for each additional member.

People needing food assistance should contact their local food pantry for immediate assistance, and their local DHS office to see if they qualify for a LINK card (food stamps).
