Circuit Judges Appoint Philip B. Alfeld an Associate Judge

On behalf of the Circuit Judges of the Third Judicial Circuit, Third Circuit Chief Judge David A. Hylla announces the appointment of Philip B. Alfeld as an Associate Judge to replace Dean Sweet, who retired effective May 30, 2014.

Philp Alfeld earned his Law Degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1980.  Mr. Alfeld has been an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office and a Special Assistant Attorney General since 1989.  Mr. Alfeld was a Sole Practitioner of Law from 1995 – 1998.  Mr. Alfeld was a Partner with the firm of Kardis, Forbes & Alfeld from 1988 – 1995 and of counsel with Schrempf, Kelly, Napp & Darr, Ltd from 1998 – present.  Mr. Alfeld’s previous employment includes Partner in Carlson & Alfeld, PC from 1986-1988, Associate with Talbert, Carlson & Mallon, PC 1986 and Associate with Paul L. Pratt, PC from 1981-1985.

Mr. Alfeld is a current member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Criminal Justice Association.  Mr. Alfeld is the past President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and member of the Alton-Wood River Bar Association.  Mr. Alfeld is a past member of American Bar Association, Madison County Bar Association, Greene County Bar Association, American Association of trial Lawyers and Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.

Mr. Alfeld is a member of the Criminal Justice Advisory Board for Lewis & Clark Community College and has been an instructor of Constitutional Law at Lewis & Clark Community College from 1991 – present.

Mr. Alfeld and wife Amy have lived in Godfrey for 20 years.
