MADISON COUNTY TEAMS WITH CITIZENS UTILITY BOARD TO HOST FREE WORKSHOPS
Workshops Designed to Help Residents Save Money By Reducing Energy Costs

EDWARDSVILLE, March 24, 2016 – The Citizens Utility Board, non-profit organization committed to working for the rights of utility customers throughout Illinois, is joining with Madison County Community Development to conduct free workshops for county residents interested in saving on utility bills and staying in Troy, Alton and Granite City.

Madison County Chairman Alan J. Dunstan will be hosting the workshops, which are designed to help consumers learn ways to save on utility bills, improve efficiencies and stay informed on the latest utility issues.  “For decades, Madison County residents received their utility bills once a month and made a payment; there wasn't a lot they could do about them.”

“But in recent years that has changed dramatically.  Residents can now select their electric providers and can take advantage of increased efficiencies in furnaces, air conditioners and even thermostats to reduce their utility costs,” Dunstan stated.  “We want to help Madison County residents to stay informed on issues related to their utilities, and to help them save money.”

Scott, Allen, representing the Citizens Utility Board, will facilitate the utility workshops.  The first workshop will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29 at the Troy Community Building, 410 Wickliffe, in Troy.

The second workshop is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 31 at Senior Services Plus, 2603 Rodgers Avenue in Alton.

The date and location of the third Citizens Utility Board workshop will be announced as soon as details are finalized.

Representatives from Madison County Community Development’s home weatherization and low income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP) will be present at the workshops to answer residents’ questions.

The Citizens Utility Board is a non-profit group created in 1984 by the Illinois General Assembly. Since its inception, the organization has been working to maintain fair energy and utility costs in Illinois as well as to educate and inform citizens of Illinois about their utility companies.
