Judge Barbara Crowder earned both degrees (B.A. with Distinction in Speech Communication, 1978) and her law degree from the University of Illinois (1981). She then served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Madison County before entering private practice in 1985. Judge Crowder also served as a Special Public Defender for Madison County. She was appointed an Associate Judge in January 1999 and was then elected a Circuit Judge in 2006. Judge Crowder has been a Chair of the 3rd Circuit Family Violence Prevention Council since 1999 and is Chair of the 3rd Circuit Pro Bono Committee. She is Past President of the Illinois Judges Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Judges Association, where she co-chairs the Media Committee. Judge Crowder is a member of the Special Supreme Court Child Custody Committee and is Vice Chair of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Delivery of Legal Services. In addition, Judge Crowder is Past Chair of both the Family Law Section and the Bench and Bar Section of the Illinois State Bar Association. She is Chair of the Community Relations Committee for the Madison County Bar Association. Judge Barb Crowder is married to attorney Larry Taliana. Their family includes sons Paul, Benjamin (fiancé Emily), Robert (spouse Erica), and Rob and Erica’s son (and Judge Crowder and Larry’s grandson), Joshua.
