John B. Barberis, Jr.
Circuit Judge

Judge John Barberis is a lifelong resident of Madison County.  He grew up in Collinsville where he attended and graduated from both St. Peter & Paul Catholic Grade School and Collinsville High School.   He attended two years at Eureka College where he played basketball before transferring and graduating from Illinois State University.  After graduating from ISU he went to work for the Madison County Probation Department as a Juvenile Home Detention Officer for two years.  He then enrolled full time at St. Louis University School of Law.  After earning his J.D. from SLU in 1995, he went to work for a Collinsville law firm as well as becoming a part-time Assistant State’s Attorney for Madison County.  After a couple of years, he went into private practice while continuing on as an ASA for Madison County.  During his 18 years in private practice he handled many different types of cases as well as being hired as the City Prosecuting Attorney for Collinsville and Corporate Attorney for the Gateway Convention Center located in Collinsville.  Judge Barberis was elected to the Circuit Bench in November of 2014.  He currently resides on a farm outside of St. Jacob, IL with his wife, Laura, and their daughters, Jessica and Jordan, and son, John.
