Important dates for the 2023 Consolidated Primary Election on Tuesday February 28, 2023:

Only applies to the municipalities of:

     Collinsville
     Highland
     Pontoon Beach, and 
     Wood River

August 30, 2022          First Day to circulate petitions.  Contact your local government's election
                                      official.

November 21, 2022     First Day to file petitions.  Contact your local government's election official.

November 28, 2022     Last Day to file petitions.  Contact your local government's election official.

Important dates for the 2023 Consolidated Election on Tuesday
April 4, 2023:


September 20, 2022     First Day to circulate petitions for candidates seeking election in the
                                      2023 Consolidated Election.  Contact your local government's election official.

December 12, 2022       First Day to file petitions nominating petitions with the local election
                                       official for the 2023 Consolidated Election.

December 19, 2022        Last Day to file petitions nominating petitions with the local election
                                        official for the 2023 Consolidated Election.

All Petitions filed by persons waiting in line at the office of the County Clerk as of 8:30 A.M. on the first day for filing, December 12, 2022, shall be considered as having been simultaneously filed.  Petitions, filed by mail, which are received in the office of the County Clerk in the first mail delivery or pickup on the first day of filing shall be considered as having been simultaneously filed as of 8:30 A.M.    Petitions received prior to December 12, 2022, cannot be accepted and will be returned.  All petitions received after 8:30 A.M. on December 12, 2022 shall be considered as having been filed in the order of actual receipt except petitions filed within the last hour of December 19, 2022 will also be considered simultaneously filed.  Whenever two or more petitions are simultaneously filed for the same office, the County Clerk shall break ties and determine the order of filing by means of a lottery.

The office hours are from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.  On Monday December 19, 2022, the last day for filing petitions, the office will be open until 5:00 P.M.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Write-In Candidates

To become a write-in candidate, you must file a "Declaration of Intent to be a Write-In" form with the County Clerk at least 61 days prior to an election. 

If an objection to a candidate's nominating papers or petitions for an office is sustained after the 61st day before the election, he or she can file a notarized declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for that office with the County Clerk no later than 7 days prior to the election. 

Write-in votes for candidates who file this form will be counted.

Pollwatchers

To be a  pollwatcher you must: 

  • be registered to vote in Illinois
  • have valid credentials from the Madison County Clerk’s Office
  • have separate credentials issued for each voting site selected to observe 
  • Pollwatchers are required to surrender their credentials at the polls and sign the Pollwatcher Register.
